Italian Baroque Walnut Table with Barley Twist Legs, c.1700
Further images
A handsome small Italian walnut table dating to the late seventeenth or early eighteenth century. The rectangular plank top with moulded edge sits above a deep frieze incorporating a single drawer to one side.
The table stands on four bold barley-twist legs joined by a rectangular stretcher frame with square corner blocks, terminating in turned feet. The pronounced spiral turning of the legs and the robust architectural base are characteristic of Italian baroque furniture of the period.
The walnut has developed a rich, deep patina with evidence of long use to the top surface.
